R Kelly has been charged with ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse

R Kelly has been charged with ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse on Friday morning in Cook County, the Chicago Sun Times reports.

According to a number of reports his first court date has been listed for March 8.

Sources have told the newspaper that Cook County prosecutors had appeared before a judge to sign an arrest warrant for R Kelly on Friday afternoon.

While this has been going on, Kelly has adamantly denied all allegations made against him.

These charges come after the controversial documentary titled Surviving R Kelly was released.

A source close to Kelly's case has reportedly confirmed to Business Insider that a jury met last week to start their consideration over the allegations made against the rapper.

Kelly's attorney, Steven Greenberg, told The Sun: "This morning I woke up to reports that a video had surfaced showing R Kelly allegedly with an underage girl.

"The reports were prompted from a tweet by Michael Avenatti, who himself was the subject of unfavourable news articles just yesterday. Timing is everything.

"The calls and emails I received were the first I've heard of these allegations. I understand that CNN says that they have seen this video."

The lawyer also said that Kelly has denied that he engaged in any illegal conduct.

He added that neither he nor Kelly has been contacted by any law enforcement yet.
